Meet the Artists Behind Schneed

Benjamin Steer

Matthew Turk

Formed by aspiring regional artists Benjamin Steer and Matthew Turk in 2008, the duo were drawn together due to their shared passion and intuition for the odd and eccentric.

Early in their formative years, the Schneed Collective released a flourish of musical projects, including work with their groups ‘Jamin Factory, Black Oak, and Turtle Escape Capsule. Though most inspiration was drawn from the metal genre, they also heavily leaned into creating parody songs. The pair authored a screenplay for a sketch comedy show and produced two segments, “Infiltratore” and “Ozzy’s Outback Adventures”, along with a series of music video clips and short films.

Upon being awarded a double degree in Mechatronics Engineering and Science, Benjamin Steer has been working as a computer vision engineer, developing depth perception and control systems for underwater robots. Despite his technical specialisation, Benjamin has always given equal weight to his creative endeavours, including sketching and digital painting.

Benjamin also has a background in games development, originally starting his university career in the subject before switching to engineering. Benjamin spent the better part of the year of 2021 developing and producing art for Astorum: Beyond the Sky, his first mobile multiplayer title, creating colourful and playful representations of outer space and sci-fi scenes.

After receiving his degree in Audio and Technologies, Matthew Turk found work as a recording engineer producing for many different artists and releasing multiple albums of original works with his side project Offspring of Convicts.

In late 2017, Matthew Turk hung up his headphones and began his formal journey into the marketing industry. Shortly after this change in trajectory, he joined a video-game development studio, utilising his creative and unique take on humour in the marketing space.

After over a decade of experience across the creative spectrum since forming the Schneed Collective, with the members now being separated in Melbourne and Sydney, the pair have had to branch out and explore new approaches to their unorthodox take on art - forcing them to rely on non-traditional methods and mediums.
